Midnight Blues
by
Garry Moore
It's the darkest hour
Of the darkest night
It's a million miles
From the morning light
Can't get no sleep
Don't know what to do
I've got those midnight blues
When the shadows fall
I feel the night closing in
There must be some reason
For this mood I'm getting in
Can't get no sleep
Don't know what to do
I've got those midnight blues
Every evening after sundown
As the light begins to fade
I feel so low, but I just don't know
Why these blues won't go away
Every evening after sundown
As the light begins to fade
I feel so low, but I just don't know
Why these blues won't go away
It's the darkest hour
Of the darkest night
It's a million miles
To the morning light
Can't get no sleep
Don't know what to do
I've got those midnight blues
I've got those midnight blues
I've got those midnight blues
I've got those midnight blues

Singing The Blues
by: Roy Orbison
Well I never felt more like singing the blues
Cos I never thought that I'd ever lose your love, dear
Why'd you do me this way?
Well, I never felt more like crying all night
Cos everything's wrong and nothing is right without you
You got me singing the blues
Well the moon and stars no longer shine
The dream is gone I thought was mine
There's nothing left for me to do
But cry over you
Well, I never felt more like runnin' away
But why should I go, 'cos I couldn't stay without you
You got me singing the blues
Well I never felt more like singing the blues
Cos I never thought that I'd ever lose your love, dear
Why'd you do me this way?
Well, I never felt more like crying all night
Cos everything's wrong and nothing is right without you
You got me singing the blues
Well the moon and stars no longer shine
The dream is gone I thought was mine
There's nothing left for me to do
But cry over you
Well, I never felt more like runnin' away
But why should I go, 'cos I couldn't stay without you
You got me singing the blues
Well I never felt more like singing the blues
Cos I never thought that I'd ever lose your love, dear
Why'd you do me this way?

I Heard It Through The Grapevine
by
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Oo Bet you're wond'ring how I knew ?
bout your plans to make me blue
With some other guy that you knew before?
Between the two of us guys you know I love you more.
It took me by surprise I must say
when I found out yesterday. Oo
I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine.
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.
You know that a man ain't supposed to cry,
but these tears I can't hold inside.
Losin' you would end my life you see,
'cause you mean that much to me.
You could have told me yourself
that you found someone else. Instead,
I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine.
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.
not much longer would you be mine.
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.
People say you
Hear from what you see,
na na not from what you hear.
I can't help bein' confused;
if it's true, won't you tell me dear?
Do you plan to let me go
for the other guy that you knew before? Oo,
I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine.
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.
not much longer would you be mine.
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.
I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine.
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.
not much longer would you be mine.
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.

If I Lost You
Hey, you're the greatest thing in my life, baby
Oh, without your love baby, I don't know just what I'll do
Oh, years of loving you, you've been so true
I believe I'd lose my mind if I lost you
Oh, I guess I've been lucky to have someone so dear
To talk and laugh and always bring me cheer
Oh, after all of this years, you've been so true to me baby
I believe I'd lose my mind if I lost you
Oh, after all the lies I've told you
Just like givin' you, givin' you the stars
Oh, buying you mink coats, mink coats and diamonds
Money in the bank and each year, each year two brand new cars
Hey, you've the greatest thing in my life baby
Oh, between me and you, I've know I got the best deal
Oh, let me thank you, thank you baby
You've been so true I'd lose my mind if I lost you

The Sky is Crying
The sky is crying, a video with blueslegends, BB King, Albert King and Steve Ray Vaughn, I also added the lyrics of the song. This song is also on the repertoire of Eric Clapton and Nigel Mack. In my opinion its one of the most poetic bluessongs. How can you better say its raining ia a way like "The sky is crying"
The sky is cryin....
Can't you see the tears roll down the street
The sky is cryin....
Can't you see the tears roll down the street
I've been looking for my baby
And I wonder where can she be
I saw my baby early one morning....
She was walking on down the street
I saw my baby early this morning....
She was walking on down the street
You know it hurt me, hurt me so bad
Made my poor heart skip a beat
I've got a real real real real bad feelin
That my baby she don't love me no more
I've got a real real bad feelin that my baby don't love me no more
You know the sky, the sky's been cryin
Can you see the tears roll down my nose

Tom Waits
A while ago I wrote about a CD I bought, called beyond Mississippi: The Blues has left the Town. On this CD a song is recorded of Tom Waits, that I like very much. Its called "Cooking Up A Filipino Box Spring Hog". Its the text that triggered me and the way Tom Waits sings this song. You like it or you don't but if you can listen to it some times, I'm sure you will like it too.
The text is from Tom and his wife Kathleen and goes as follows.
Spider rolled in from
Dig a big pit in a dirt alley road
Rattle snake piccata with grapes and figs

Cooking Up A Fillipino Box Spring Hog
by: Tom Waits
Well I hung on to marys stump
I danced with a soldiers glee
With a rum soaked crook
And a big fat laugh
I spent my last dollar on thee
I saw bill bones, gave him a yell
Kehoe spiked the nog
With a chain link fence
And a scrap iron jaw
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Spider rolled in from
Hollister burn
With a one-eyed stolen mare
Donned himself with chicken fat
Sawin on a jaw bone violin there
Kathleen was sittin down
In little reds recovery room
In her criminal underwear bra
I was naked to the waist
With my fierce black hound
And Im cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Dig a big pit in a dirt alley road
Fill it with madrone and bay
Stinks like hell
And the neighbors complain
Dont give a hoot what they say
Slap that hog
Gotta roll em over twice
Baste him with a sweeping broom
You gotta swat them flies
And chain up the dogs
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Rattle snake piccata with grapes and figs
Old brown betty with a yellow wig
Taint the mince meat filagree
And it aint the turkey neck stew
And it aint them bruleed
Okra seeds though she
Made them especially for you
Worse won a prize for her
Bottom black pie
The beans got to thrown to the dogs
Jaheseus christ I can always
Make room when theyre
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog
Cookin up a filipino box spring hog

Anybody Seen My Baby
Anybody seen my baby, a song from the Rolling Stones, From their CD 40 licks. In my opinion this song is a blues song. Although many would say no its a pop love song. Read the lyrics and if you have the CD listen the song over and over, feel the atmosphere of the song, let it get into your vains, and feel this song. I am convinced you really gonna love it.
She confessed her love to me
Then she vanished on the breeze
Trying to hold on to that was just impossible
She was more than beautiful
Closer to etherial
With a kind of down to earth flavor
Close my eyes
It's three in the afternoon
Then I realize
That she's really gone for good
Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around
Love has gone and made me blind
I've looked but I just can't find
She has gotten lost in the crowd
I was flippin' magazines
In that place on Mercer Street
When I thought I spotted her
Getting on a motor bike
Looking rather lady like
Didn't she just give me a wave?
Salty tears
It's three in the afternoon
Has she disappeared
Is she really gone for good
Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around
If I just close my eyes
I reach out and touch the prize
Anybody seen her around
(Rap)
Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around
If I just close my eyes
I reach out and touch the prize
Anybody seen her around
Lost, lost and never found
I must have called her a thousand times
Sometimes I think she's just in my imagination
Lost in the crowd
Then she vanished on the breeze
Trying to hold on to that was just impossible
She was more than beautiful
Closer to etherial
With a kind of down to earth flavor
Close my eyes
It's three in the afternoon
Then I realize
That she's really gone for good
Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around
Love has gone and made me blind
I've looked but I just can't find
She has gotten lost in the crowd

Anybody seen her around

I reach out and touch the prize
Anybody seen her around

Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around

I reach out and touch the prize

Little Red Rooster
This Golden Oldie was on the reportoire of many Bluessingers and/or bands, like a.o. Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Big Mamma Thornton. Easy to play on your guitar, just strumming the Bluesscheme with the chords E, A, B7. You can add some variation by putting in an E7 and a G chord, and if you can add a solo between the second and the third verse. And above all sing it. Have fun with our Little Red Rooster, who's too lazy to crow for day. (Sometimes I am that lazy too)

(Rolling Stones)
(Rolling Stones)
I am the little red rooster
Too lazy to crow for day
I am the little red rooster
Too lazy to crow for day
Keep everything in the farm yard
upset in every way
The dogs begin to bark
and hounds begin to howl
Dogs begin to bark
and hounds begin to howl
Watch out strange cat people
Little red rooster's on the prowl
If you see my little red rooster
Please drive him home
If you see my little red rooster
Please drive him home
Ain't had no peace in the farm yard
Since my little red rooster's been gone

When Love Comes To Town
by BB King
I was a sailor, I was lost in sea
I was under the waves, before love rescued me
I was a fighter, I could turn on the threat
Now I stand accused of things I've said
Love comes to town,
I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town
I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
Used to make love under the red sunset
I was making promises that I were soon to forget
She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown
But I left her standing before love came to town.
Ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream
The notes were turning blue as days are a dream
As the music played I saw my life turn around
That was the day before love came to town
Love comes to town,
I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town
I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
Love comes to town,
I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town
I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
I was there when they crusified my lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice as they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide
Love comes to town,
I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town
I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
I was a sailor, I was lost in sea
I was under the waves, before love rescued me

Me and the Devil
Me and the devil
by Robert Johnson
Early this morning when you knocked upon my door
Early this morning when you knocked upon my door
And I said "Hello Satan I believe it's time to go
Me and the Devil was walking side by side
Me and the Devil was walking side by side
I'm goin' to beat my woman until I get satisfied
She say you don't see why that I will dog her 'round
She say you don't see why that I will dog her 'round
It must be that ol' evil spirit so deep down in the ground
You may burn my body down by the highway side
You may burn my body down by the highway side
So my old evil spirit can get a Greyhound bus and ride
by Robert Johnson
Early this morning when you knocked upon my door
Early this morning when you knocked upon my door
And I said "Hello Satan I believe it's time to go
Me and the Devil was walking side by side

Freight Train Blues
These are the lyrics of the Freight train blues by Bob Dylan

I was born in Dixie in a boomer shack
Just a little shanty by the railroad track
Freight train was it taught me how to cry
hummin' of the driver was my lullaby
I got the freight train blues
Oh Lord mama, I got them in the bottom of my rambling shoes
And when the whistle blows I gotta go baby, don't you know
Well, it looks like I'm never gonna lose the freight train blues.
Well, my daddy was a fireman and my old ma here,
She was the only daugther of an engineer
My sweetheart loved a brakeman and it ain't no joke
It's a shamethe way she keeps a good man broke
I got the freight train blues
Oh Lord mama, I got them in the bottom of my rambling shoes
And when the whistle blows I gotta go oh mama, don't you know
Well, it looks like I'm never gonna lose the freight train blues.
Well, the only thing that makes me laugh again
Is a southbound whistle on a southbound train
Every place I wanna go
I never can go, because you know
I got the freight train blues
Oh Lord mama, I got them in the bottom of my rambling shoes.

Gary Moore - Still got the Blues
One of the most beautiful blues ballads in my opinion is this song from Gary Moore "Still got the blues". I lately bought a DVD of Gary featering Albert King, the King of the Blues a marvellous DVD and ofcourse this song is also on that DVD. I play the DVD loud, plug in my guitar an try to play along, that gives me such a kick, I can follow now parts of the solo and just jamming around for the rest of the song. It sounds good, but still not as Gary plays it. For those who forgot the lyrics, I put them in this post.
Gary Moore - Still got the blues
Used to be so easy to give my heart away
But I've found out the hard way there's a price you have to pay
I found that love was no friend of mine
I should have known time after time
So long, it was so long ago
but I've still got the blues for you
Used to be so easy to fall in love again
But I've found out the hard way it's a road that leads to pain
I've found out that love was more than just a game
you play on to win but you lose just the same
So long, it was so long ago
but I've still got the blues for you
So many years since I've seen your face
but here in my heart there's an empty space
where you used to be So long, it was so long ago
but I've still got the blues for you
Though the days come and go there's one thing I know
I've still got the blues for you
Used to be so easy to give my heart away
