Pressnotice F.O.G. Bluesband

Saturday night October 27th 2007 there will be made a DVD recording from the live performance of the Dutch Blues rock formation FOG Bluesband in Muziekcafé Loonies at Nijmegen (The Netherlands).

The complete performance will be recorded with 3 cameras by a proffesional camera team and registred on DVD. This live DVD can be ordered at the website of The F.O.G. Bleusband (hit the link).

Those who want to see their own face or hear their own voice on this DVD is invited to join this free performance.

Bredevoort in Café De Zwaan (Tobi’s Jazz Club) as of aprox. 15.00 uur until early in the evening playing the blues relaxed

Culemborg Blues 2007-The Festival

The 14th Culemborg Blues 2007 was held last Saturday. A beuatiful surrounding, beautiful weather and a lot of bands. Amongst other you could enjoy the sounds of Superfloor, Danny Bryants, Redeye Band, Scot MckKeon, Kozmic Blue, Ana Popovic, Alquin, Juke Joints, Jeroen Sweers Boogie Woogie Band.
I didn't saw and heard all of them but I saw the following bands perform, Jeroen Sweers Boogie Woogie Band, Motel Kingz, Cleanhead & Barefoot, Kozmic Blue and Ana Popovic.
I enjoyed Ana Popovic the most. Her guitarplay was perfect, no wonder she was invited to play at the Jimmy Hendrix memorial in the US.
Also this year the festival was perfectly organised. This years festival should be the reason to visit the next again.

Culemborg blues 2007 - The Program

Well a while ago I wrote about the upcoming Bluesfestival in Culemborg, The Netherlands, that will take place August 25Th, 2007 from 14:00h until 01:00h. UCK Jazz: Closing of the year 2006-2007

Last Thursday was the closing of the schoolyear 2006-2007 of the Jazzdepartment of UCK, Utrecht. It was also the last performance of the "Quatro Saxofoni" quartet in their current composition (aaaaaaaahhhh). Besides Quatro Saxofoni there was a performance of the Jazz Big Band of UCK and "Toeter en Groef" a band only consisting of wind instruments and a drummer.

Ana Popovic @ Culemborg Blues 2007

What I read and heard about/from this young girl gives me more than enough excuses to go to Culemborg in August. Hope you do the same.

Cuby & The Blizzards-Tour 65

Last Thursdaynight was a magnificent blues nigtht. That night I went to a performance of Cuby & The Blizzards in musiccentre Vredenburg in Utrecht.
At first there was Ralph de Jongh to warm up the public before the main event started. I myself like to lsten and see how Ralph performs the blues. When Ralph picks up the guitar he seems to become a complete other man. He becomes part of his guitar and the blues he is playing, you see the blues coming out of each vibre of his body. Ralphs blues can be best compared with the original delta blues from the Mississippi Delta. When you close your eyes you hear Jhon Lee Hooker but at the same time the slight differences in the sound so which makes Ralph so Unique.
After that Cuby & The Blizards made their entance. Harry "Cuby" Muskee, 65 years of age, is a performer through the heart, a proffesional, a stage animal, a perfectionist and super cool on stage. He directs his band and gives the soloïsts the room they need on stage. He is still top. The program is almost the same as on the live recorded cd "Live in het Oude Luxor", which I bought during the break.
A night with good music, and as all good things it was over to soon.
Ralph, Harry,Helmig, Hans, Herman, Erwin and other musicians thank you for a rememberable night.

Cuby and the Blizzards

Well upcoming thursday one of the eldest bluesband in the Netherlands "Cuby & The Blizzards" will perform in Vredenburg at Utrecht. Although Harry "Cuby" Muskee is already 65 years of age, thats why the tour is called "Route 65" I think, he still is one of the best bluesartist of the world. Also Ralph the young will be present , he played Harry Muskee in a film about Harry when he was young. As well as Harry, Ralph's blues comes from the heart. I am looking forward to upcoming Thursday, I already gave myself a ticket for this show. How it was I will tell you as I have seen, but above all heard it.

UCK JazzNight @ Ceesplace - May 2007

Yesterday, Thursday May 10th 2007, there was the second JazzNight of UCK. Performences were given by the students of UCK. All was under supervision and organized by Iman Spaargaren, who gives Saxophone classes. Last night there were performences of Stoom Cursus I, Stoom Cursus II, Quatro Saxofoni and Toeter & Groef. It was a great succes, evryone played with great enthousiasm and pleasure. After the break Iman Spaargaren played some songs with his band.
All was held in Live Music Club Ceesplace, Oude Gracht, Utrecht.

Bluesroute 2007, It's Over

Unfortunatly the Bluesroute is already over this year. What one waited so long for belongs to the past, it was a great succes. Good wheater, good crowd, good locations, good beer and above all GOOD bues musicians. The ones whom I talked with during the event where all satisfied about it and enjoyed the event.

During the weekend I was able to see 6 bands of the 14 bands that participated. I had a chance to see the Daisy Dukes. I liked this band, 3 guys, a little bit Garry Moore's style. They where playing in café "Heen en Weer" at the WED on Friday night. There was a good crowd in and around this pub. They enjoyed me very much. I also went to the "Witte Ballonnen" at the Lijnmarkt, Mc Anthony's Bluesgang played over there. They were very cool, their performance and play were very good. While it was so crowded over there I only stayed there for about half an hour. Later that night I went to the "Postiljon"at the Lijnmarkt. A group from Culemborg (NL) named the Headtricks were playing there, the music is good but they can do more with their performance. I'm told it is a relativaly new band. I admire them doing this. Maybe when I saw them first and after that the Daisy Dukes, I would appreciated them more.

On Saturday Night again I went to "Heen en Weer" first. A group called the Rocky Mountains was playing, at first I thought they were American but their just as Dutch as I am. They played several styles of blues, kind a Rocky, kind a Soul, kind a Latin. I liked it and they enjoyed performing and playing on the bluesroute, the music came out of their hearts. I also went to see Skinny Boy, a very talented group, a raw voice, good harp, guitar bass and drums. Not really my style, but never the less a good bunch of musicians with great talent, which they use well. And I liked listening to them.

My favourite gang for that night was BX Bluesband, I like the way they bring the blues to the audience, I like the way they make their music, with passion and belief. And they always succeed in getting the crowd wild. They play song like "Help me", "Hands of my baby" with such a passion and with a certain tension that you cant stand still, they make a party. I don't have to say, I liked their performance best... oops now I did it.

Overall it was a great succes, even better than last year and maybe next year will even be better again, with more bands and more participating café's and pubs, and who knows, maybe we have outdoor stages again. And I certainly hope to see FOG Bluesband, 12 Bar Bluesband, JR band, maybe Little Boogie Boy or BlueShaker or... name your favourites. Who will tell, I am sure Cees will make the best of it again.

Blues Route Utrecht 2007, F.O.G. Bluesband

Unfortunaly the performance of F.O.G. Bluesband is cancelled.
Today Appie the Bluesman entered an entry n my Guestbook in which he stated that the band was not able to play on saturday. I really regret this too. I was determined to see them play on the Bluesroute. Well I have to wait for another occurrence to hear them play. As for now I listen to their demo's on F.O.G. Bluesband

Blues Route Utrecht 2007, The Other Bands

The Reverend's gang is a punk rock power trio with some Blues influences
from the darker side.

Rani's Blues on the wall, I couldn't find anything about this band on the internet, perhaps I used the worng search terms but whatever I tried but didnt find anything, the same goes for the Electric Fun Addicts, The Daisy Dukes, Rahim & Lamar (usa), Mac Anthony's bluesgang and the Rocky Mountains. The latter band I presume is a band from the US but I am not sure about that .
Maybe someone of you know anything about these bands. Please let me know through your comment or a guestbook entry.

Blues Route Utrecht 2007, JB's Bluescrew

JB's Bluescrew
JB, stands for John Brouwer and is the frontman of the band and does the vocals and plays the harp.Eric ‘half note' Davidse on guitar, Hen Schreurs grooving on the bass and Frans ‘rhythm' Clerx beating the drums. Straight Rhythm & Blues, that's what they deliver, be it slow, lazy groovy, dirty groovy, swing or up tempo boogie.



The members of the crew come from all corners of Holland, the South the East and the west. They play all kind of great songs, that everybody knowas and never bore and once in a while they play some selfmade songs.

You can see JB's Bluescrew perform on the Bluesroute Utrecht 2007 on Friday April 27th at cafe Zadelbar on the Zadelstraat and on Saturday April 28th at Cafe Weerbericht on the Biltstraat at Utrecht.

The F.O.G Bluesband (Five old Guys) is a bluescoverband from Holland. They play songs of amongst others Walter Trout, Gary Moore, The Holmes Brothers, Flavium, Poppa Chuby, Brainbox etc. They will perform during the BluesRoute Utrecht 2007 in the Zadelbar, Zadelstraat te Utrecht on April 28th as of 22.00h.

Last year I missed their performance but that won't happen this year.

Gein op de GVU buslijn

Zoals jullie misschien wel weten maak ik veelvuldig gebruik van het openbaar vervoer, bus en trein, ten behoeve van het woon-werk verkeer. Per jaar loopt dat zo op naar een kleine 750 uur. Dan wil het ook gebeuren dat je in die tijd ook wel wat leuks meemaakt. Zo ook afgelopen maandag. Ikwas op weg naar huis en nam zoals gewoonlijk Lijn 1 naar Ziekenhuis Overvecht. Achter het stuur zat een uiterst vriendelijk chauffeur, die iedereen uitbundig begroette bij het instappen in de bus. Zo ook mij en ik groette hem dan ook vriendelijk. Toen de bus het station verliet, sprak de chauffeur ons vrolijk toe: "Dames en Heren, mijn naam is xxxxxxxxxxx en ik heet u hartelijk welkom aan boord van deze bus. Ons einddoel voor vandaag is Ziekenhuis Overvecht en op weg daar naar toe zullen wij enkele pittoreskeplekjes van de stad passeren." Ik kreeg een beetje de giebellach. Nog voor het Vredenburg, schakelde hij de automatische route stem in en een vriendelijk damesstem schalde door de bus "Volgende halte: Het Vredenburg". De cauffeur sprak onmiddelijk door zijn intercom dat dit zijn zus was en dat hij het vanaf nu weer zelf opnam. Op geheel eigen wijze van de chauffeur schalde de aankondiging van de verschillende haltes door de bus. Ik moet zeggen de manier waarop hij dat deed was op zijn minst humoristisch. Het hoogtepunt van de rit was wel het moment dat we de Meester Tripkade opdraaiden. Zonder een zweem van een lach klonk door de intercom:"Dames en Heren de volgende halte is de Meester Doctor Professor Ingenieur Tripkade" Waarop 1 van de 2 dametjes die voor me in de bus zaten zei "Verrek ik dag astottie alleinig schoalmeister waas, dattie dokter waas hep ikke nooit gewete", waarop de ander reageerde "Jao zozie je waor je ken elleke dag nog wat lere, zellufs in de bus"

Ik had het niet meer en lag in een deuk.

The X factor

Who has the X factor thats what keeping us Dutch busy over the last 6 months. Last Saturday i was Final day. From over 30.000 contestants Sharon (my Idol) and Richie reached the final. Each had to sing 3 songs. And of course like all the other shows Sharon was the best. And she won. She had 75 votes out of hunderd and was the glorious winner. She earned a contract with a record company and eternal faim. Sharon sings with and from her soul, her face and voice tell us the lyrics of the song like a story from a book.

On friday they were at the Station in Utrecht for their promo tour there I made the pictures.

Yes this album you must have, nice bluesballads, good guitar and harp work from the man who started 40 years ago at the Gaslight Café in Mew York

John Hammond is now 64 years old and this album is his 29th album, he won one Amy award and was nominated for another 4. He isn't very welknown by a large audiance and also I noticed his work very recently. I heard a song from John on the radio I think it was Arrow Jazz radio and so I search on the internet to learn something about him and bought this album at I-tunes. I was suprised and I will certainly buy more albums from this guy. You must try it out yourself.
